A Million Reasons to Love Mel’s Charities

From News Graphic

From start to finish, Mel’s Charities’ weekend was a total success

Mel’s Charity Facts:

For 20 years, Mel’s Charities’ mission has been to provide “Great Times for Great Causes,” supporting nonprofit organizations in Ozaukee County, with a strong emphasis for special needs, memorial scholarships and human services. The goal has always been to help others while having fun.

Mel’s also supports organizations like the MACC Fund in memory of an individual.

The 300 Fun(d) Team helps provide resources for long term sustainability. Additional funding is provided by pledges, gifts, grants and charitable bequests.

Tom (Mel) Stanton addresses the guests who have assembled Sunday at the 20th Annual Mel’s Pig Roast. “Who knew that a simple act of kindness 20 years ago would grow into an organization that has impacted so many lives in Ozaukee County? All told, we will have given away over $1 million and we’re just getting started! It goes to show that you can help a lot of people just by having fun. I am humbled by all the support we receive from the community, whether it's our army of volunteers, the generous sponsorships and donations from local businesses and all the people who attend our events. What we raise here, stays here ... to impact lives of people in Ozaukee County.

Mel’s Charities attributes the success to a growing army of dedicated volunteers, corporate sponsors and generous donors, who help accelerate the growth in giving every year.

In 2017, Mel’s Charities provided grants totaling $146,000 to Ozaukee County organizations. What began as a $350 gift in 1999 has now grown to $1 million in total grants. This was announced at the 20th anniversary Pig Roast. From left are Donald Kolanko, Andy Peterson, Cory Weber, Tom Stanton, Ross Rintelman, Aaron Gresch and Robert Kolanko.
